What You Actually Get

A day pass buys you entry to a hotel or resort's pool facilities for a single day — usually including pool access, lounge chairs, and towel service. Depending on the property, it may also include beach access, a credit toward food and drinks, or spa amenities.

What you typically don't get: a hotel room, unlimited drinks, or guaranteed cabana access (those usually require an additional reservation). Read the fine print. We do — and we note it in our reviews.

Before You Book: A Few Things Worth Knowing

Book on weekdays when you can
Weekend demand at resort pools is brutal. A Wednesday at the Bellagio pool is a dramatically different experience than a Saturday — fewer people, faster service, and often the same price.

Confirm what's included before you commit
Day pass perks vary widely. Some include a food/drink credit, some don't. Some give you towels, some charge. Check the listing carefully — and read our review if we've covered the property.

Arrive at or before the listed opening time
Prime lounge chairs go fast. The people who show up at noon wondering where all the good chairs went are the people who arrived at noon.

Check the day pass vs. room rate math
Sometimes a last-minute hotel room is only $30–50 more than a day pass — and gets you a room for the night. Worth checking before you book a day pass at a higher-end property.

Cabanas require a separate reservation
Never assume a day pass includes a cabana. It doesn't. Cabanas are almost always an add-on, and they're almost always in limited supply.
